Comments For Do You Believe in Ghosts?
My family think I have a New York accent and my friends in New York think I talk like a hillbilly! Can't win!
I don't think you have a strong accent actually!! Just teasing you a little, because I hear some of those names differently in my head. I have to do one of these so you can hear me! Terrifying thought.
Please do! I would love to hear you read one. (Hey, I am about to release a list of stories that need readers for the Featured Podfic ... ;) I just replied to another comment of yours suggesting that a great resource would be a podfic that is nothing but reading the Index of Names by someone who knows how to pronounce those names--but like any attempt to figure out "correct canon," I'd imagine it would be contentious and cause as many problems as it solved! :D
When I hear my inlaws talk, I realize my accent isn't bad. But the East Baltimore accent generally gets on my nerves--sorry, Inlaws!--especially some of the grammatical quirks, like the plural "yous" or the use of "seen" for "saw." (Thank goodness Bobby avoided both of those!) But non-Baltimore people hear it, like when Hrymfaxe visited and was amused by how I say "on." So I guess I'm in the same boat as you there!
Dawn, thank you so much. You did a beautiful job on this. You made it sound better than it did in my head (except for some of those regional vowels, of course! Don't look at gift horse in the mouth, Janet!). Seriously, I love it when you read my stories. You always get my jokes! I've always suspected that was true, but the proof is in a podfic read! Thank you.
You're welcome! I am always happy (and relieved!) when the author I've read for likes the reading. It's hard to know if what I hear in my head is what you intended.
I used to be rather snooty about the fact that I didn't have a Baltimore accent--and I don't have a hard Baltimore accent!--but fandom has disabused me of that idea. ;)
