Title: Safety's Price

Exactly! This is what I've always thought of Gondolin, a gold cage. You make a very good description of the city and even more, this bleak future that opens up in front of Glorfindel of spending eternity locked up. That's why I think I've always sympathized with Aredhel and disliked Turgon.

I'm really sorry it took me so long to find this story.

Author's Response: I'm very glad you found it in the end and reviewed, because this has left me smiling. It's great to meet someone who sees Gondolin as I do --- pure claustrophobia. When I originally posted this elsewhere, I received some very startled comments from people who all assumed that it must have been a wonderful place to live…  Like you, I never had trouble understanding Aredhel's urge to leave.

Thanks very much for the review :)
