Yesterday the sad news reached us that our member Lady Roisin passed away on the 3rd of September. She fought a valiant battle against cancer and she will be missed amongst us, leaving us behind with the fruits of generosity and creativity. Our thoughts are with her husband, their daughter and those who loved her so much and wish them all the strength during these difficult times.

Akallabeth in August
Each August, we turn our attention to the Second Age. As always, we encourage our authors to consider adding a Second Age story to the archive this month. A complete list of archived Second Age stories can be found in the newsletter, and don't forget to check out last year's Akallabeth in August project for a journey through the Second Age told by our authors and artists.

Archive Update and Bugs
June's software update was successful! However, we have spotted a pair of mostly harmless bugs. When you preview a story you're adding, the preview will show the story belonging to a series. It does not actually belong to this series, and the version that displays on the site will be correct. Currently, authors cannot add more than one subseries to a parent series. We have located the cause of this problem and are working to resolve it.

Around the World and Web

LotR Genfic Community
The September Challenge will have the theme "Back to School". Stories should deal in some way with education, whether in a formal or informal manner. Elements for the challenge will be a subject of study, such as reading, arithmetic, history, music, etc., and participants should include at least a mention of their element within the story. The September challenge stories will be due the weekend of Friday, September 17, and will be revealed on Monday, September 20. To request your elements, please leave a comment to this post.

Teitho
September is considered the first month of autumn, also called fall, and rightly so: temperatures drop, leaves drift down from their trees, and the first drops of rain tumble from the skies. Author's Response: Thanks again! I am projecting a lot of myself into this one. I'll try very hard to figure out how to say something to someone and then when I see them, I open my mouth and what I really think just comes out!

This is brilliant! I was laughing out loud at some of the crossed out lines (~~You have always been a reckless idiot~~) and the challenge of dealing with ... well, Fingon being Fingon. Maedhros's muttered "Typical" and Fingon's helm hanging on his saddle got me as well.

I loved this! :D

Author's Response: Thanks! Glad you approve. I started this a long time ago, trying to be serious and this is where I ended. Typical of me! (It is not, however, despite its silliness, at all AU to my canon.)

Oh, I liked this - this feels like a conflict that could've really happened, and both letters are perfect.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! the first time I read the Silmarillion, I remember thinking when I read about the dragon: "This guy just does not stop with the high-risk stunts."

Hehehe, okay I am still failing to read this piece without bursting into laughter. And am avoiding something to eat or drink. The letter is fabulous, but the icing on the cake is the scene in the courtyard. Yeps, I really really adore your Fingon, but the star is Maedhros here.
