Mae govannen! I'm Indy.
I first read LotR shortly before the movies came out and liked them well enough, though it took me nearly a year to pick up RotK after I finished TT because I had convinced myself Frodo was going to die. I reread LotR after RotK the movie was released and, from there, moved straight into The Silmarillion. I fell in love, though it took until now for me to become involved in this small section of Tolkien fandom. I adored the writing style and the sheer epicness of the plot/history from the beginning. I have read Letters and some of HoME, though the only volume I have read in its entirety is Morgoth's Ring.
As for my favorite characters, Maglor intrigued me from the beginning. Until this past summer, though, Elrond was my favorite character, with Maglor coming in a very close second. Their places are now, obviously, reversed. The House of Fëanor in general intrigues me, and I do not believe them to be evil. (That designation belongs to Morgoth, Sauron, et al.) Nienna is my favorite of the Valar, with Námo being second.
