What social media does the SWG use and which should I follow?

The SWG maintains accounts on multiple social media platforms, where we can share announcements with our members and the wider fandom, as well as offering our members/followers additional venues for showcasing their fanworks and interacting with fellow fans. Below are the social media platforms currently used by the SWG. Followers of the SWG on these platforms can expect to see group announcements posted there. Other content and activities vary based on the platform.

Dreamwidth. A blogging and community platform, you can subscribe to our Dreamwidth community to see updates on your reading page. Anyone with a Dreamwidth account can join and post content to the community. Fanfiction, meta, artwork, other types of fanworks, and announcements about fandom events are all appropriate content for our Dreamwidth community.

Discord. Discord is a chat server where you can talk with other SWG members in real time. We use our Discord to host live events such as fanfiction book clubs, instadrabbling sessions, and live readings. Members of the SWG archive can access an invite to our Discord in the footer of the site. If you'd like to join our Discord server and are not a member of the archive, contact our moderator team and request an invite.

Tumblr. Tumblr is a microblogging platform. While we use our blog primarily to post group announcements, you can submit posts to our blog by using the "Submit a Post" link. We are also happy to reblog and signal-boost Tolkien fandom events.

The SWG also used to use Yahoo! Groups and LiveJournal. In fact, these two sites were the original SWG spaces and were initially founded in 2005. Yahoo! Groups shut its doors in 2020. We were able to save the SWG's message archive, which has historical significance within the Tolkien fandom, and will eventually make it publicly available. In the meantime, if you would like access to the Yahoo! Groups' message archive for the SWG, please contact the moderators.

Our LiveJournal community is still active but is no longer a platform we use for group announcements. Members with LiveJournal accounts are welcome to continue using the SWG LiveJournal to share stories, meta, artwork, and fandom announcements.
