Welcome to the SWG Reference Library!

The fifth facet of the mission of the Silmarillion Writers' Guild is knowledge: "To create a reliable set of references to aid others wishing to learn more about Tolkien's works, the craft of writing, and fandom culture. Through these references, we seek also to encourage readers new to The Silmarillion to understand the beauty and wonder of this book that has captivated us." To meet this goal, the SWG maintains a Reference Library for resources, analysis, and interpretation related to The Silmarillion, the fan culture that surrounds it, and writing based on this remarkable text and the fictional world it establishes.

Additions to the Reference Library are always welcome from writers with all levels of experience with The Silmarillion and nonfiction writing. Please see our Reference Library submission guidelines or contact our editors at loremaster@silmarillionwritersguild.org for more information.

In the meantime, please explore our library at the links below!

Dawn Felagund is the founder of the SWG and loves writing and reading fanfiction about Tolkien's world. With a Master's degree in humanities and as a teacher of the humanities, Dawn's heart lies with scholarship and meta in Tolkien studies. She has presented papers at Mythmoot, the New York Tolkien Conference, and the Tolkien at UVM Conference, and her work has been published in the Journal of Tolkien Studies and Mythprint.

Angelica first had contact with J.R.R. Tolkien's world was in 1979 when she read The Silmarillion and since then she's never really left Middle-earth. In 2006 she discovered Silmfics and added a whole new dimension to her appreciation of the wonders of the Legendarium. After a brief dalliance with Finrod and the Golden House of Finarfin, she joined the Fëanorian faction and swore eternal love to Maedhros and Maglor. A retired teacher, she has rejoined academia and has started a Master's program in History. Since 2008 she's been a co-moderator at the SWG.
