Túrin rushed to his mother’s side. She had a bruise on her lips, and blackened, green eyes. The last time she had defied Brodda she had received a beating for it, and they had made Túrin watch. He had had tears in his eyes and a hoarse throat from shouting curses against the drunk bastards that dared touch his precious mother. Now, he tended for her, careful like she was a wingless dove. Morwen smiled down on him.
“Don’t worry, my boy. One day we will turn our backs to this evil.”
“To be free.”
“To be free,” she repeated.
