The cage, with subtle craft designed
And with thy soft caresses gilt;
For ‘ere I knew I was entwined
‘Twas artfully around me built.With pleasant daydreams all about
I was enticed to stay a while,
And all my obligations flout
To bask instead beneath thy smile.To those who seek to free me, say:
‘This cage keeps me not locked inside
But holds all miseries at bay!’
And so within I shall abide.But only if it be with thee,
For here within my heart is free.
