Set in Nevrast, shortly after the arrival of the Noldor.

“What does it say?” Laegwen asked once she came to stand next to Elemmakil, tilting her head as if to make a better sense of the crude Tengwar he had just written on the wall.

“It is my name,” Elemmakil answered, drawing his eyes away from her and instead looking at the crooked letters again, writing his teacher would have scolded him for. But Laegwen stepped closer, inspecting each Tengwa with the same curiosity, fingers gliding along them, careful not to smudge the coal.

Then she turned to him, dark eyes sparkling.

“Can you teach me how to write mine?”
