Where was he? Where? They were going to be late for the formal reception for the delegation of Arnor royalty. And the rulers of men were so often such sticklers for protocol. While the elf in charge of the security and safety of Imladris might get away with coming in late to the Hall of Fire, Erestor certainly would not be afforded any excuses. Hadn't Glorfindel only gone back to their room to change into something appropriate (less work-stained and not smelling of horse)?

He harrumphed and wheeled around another corner into a long corridor, not even sparing a glance for Elrond's favourite tapestry of Elros and he with their fathers. But as he half-turned away from the family stairs, a glimpse of gold behind an arras stopped him short.

"Glorfindel. What in Arda are you doing out there? This is not the moment to be on a balcony admiring a garden that can be appreciated at some other more convenient time. We're almost late."

An elf stepped out, pushing the curtain back.

"My apologies Lord Erestor, I was here to deliver...."

"....It's my fault, love, I commissioned a set of brooches from Master Keiliss last month and as they were ready today I wanted to wear them tonight."

He could never resist when Glorfindel smiled like that and huffed.

"Well, at least you are dressed and we can go down right away. Thank you, Master Keiliss, I'm sure they are lovely."

The jewelsmith smiled, bowed and disappeared back down the corridor. He turned away from her to find Glorfindel standing very close with a pin open in his hand.

"This one is for you."

It was a small enamelled depiction of a flamboyant-looking pink bird with a jewelled eye, surrounded by a wreath of yellow flowers. Glorfindel attached it just below the collar of Erestor's robes.

"Will you pin this one on me?", as he handed the other over.

"Oh love...."

Each of the golden flowers had a tiny bead sparkling in the centre.

Glorfindel pulled him even closer and murmured into his braids. His breath caught, he pulled back and gazed into Glorfindel's eyes.

Time stopped and the silence became a warm blanket around them.

Reluctantly, he stepped further away.

"If you are going to look at me like that we will either be very late, or not show up at all. It will cause a diplomatic incident. As well as a scolding from Elrond for indecent behaviour. Again."

With a sigh and a wry smile, he turned towards the public end of the corridor.

"But I promise to do all the looking you could possibly desire after we are released tonight. In fact, my schedule has just become mysteriously clear tomorrow morning."

"And my deputy has been wanting to have more responsibility for the borders. I'll have to let her know before the meal."

Hand-in-hand they walked together towards the sound and lights.
