Conversations with a Stone

prompt: moon, autumn, soft, laughter

Read Conversations with a Stone

Idril was trying, she really was. It’s just that, her cousin, newly come and so very young and full of fresh grief, well. He was making this difficult. He seemed determined not to enjoy all that Gondolin had to offer. Idril stayed out late, even into the chilly autumn evenings, moon full and bright, when the wind blew down from the mountains with a hint of frost, to get to know him. But there was no conversation, for Lomion was closer in kin to a rock and just as conversational. No soft laughter, no gossip, just silence in the twilight.

Goodness, I would have thought Idril would have a little more sympathy, or at least more patience, for someone grieving their mother. Or does she not have enough experience with the grief of others to know it can take different forms?
