The Sea stretches out before them, endless and blue, swiftly turning to steely grey under the gathering clouds. Gulls wheel overhead. Daeron kneels on the hillside behind Maglor, and wraps them both in his cloak against the coming fog and the chilling winds. “We should not linger,” he says as Maglor leans back against him. Maglor only hums, eyes closed, face going soft as he sighs. “Maybe you don’t mind the cold,” Daeron says, “but I do.”
Maglor opens his eyes, but doesn’t move to rise. “Are you not warmer than you’ve ever been, right here?” His hand catches Daeron’s, lacing their fingers together against his chest.
“I won’t be when it starts to rain,” Daeron says, and Maglor laughs. He thinks that laughter, soft and sweet, might be the most beautiful sound he has ever heard. Neither of them move; they have a little time, until the rain comes.
