Fanwork Notes

Written for the Queens of the Quill challenge.

The poem “A Litany for Survival” by Audre Lorde was my prompt. The last two stanzas stuck out to me in particular as having big Rog/House of the Hammer of Wrath energy, so that’s what inspired this fic(let).

And when the sun rises we are afraid

it might not remain

when the sun sets we are afraid

it might not rise in the morning

when our stomachs are full we are afraid

of indigestion

when our stomachs are empty we are afraid

we may never eat again

when we are loved we are afraid

love will vanish

when we are alone we are afraid

love will never return

and when we speak we are afraid

our words will not be heard

nor welcomed

but when we are silent

we are still afraid

So it is better to speak

remembering

we were never meant to survive.

I agree that Audre Lord's poem has Rog vibes.

I really like how you characterize Rog here and particularly the description of his relations with the other members of his House!

He handles Maeglin's anxieties really well, too.

The world you've created here is so lively! I really enjoyed the OCs even in their brief appearances.

This version of Rog ♡♡♡ I adore how strong and steady he is here, but how he also has the capability to be more fiery. I wonder how things might have turned out if Lómion had spent more time with him.
