This whole AU is really intriguing, but out of your fics for it I think I love this one the most. The title alone is so beautiful and important, so relevant to their survival in a world where they are the only ones to bear the knowledge of their truth. And all the small details fall into place well--the shockingly colorful world, the question of a flower to reflect the Feanorian star, the shop with a history that it cannot speak. 

And the toy dragons just hurt. (That's a sentence I never thought I'd write.)

Their conflict during the meeting, too, has got such a good tension to it; Maedhros' self-awareness is keen and painful, and the way Maglor goes quiet after Maedhros yells is perfect. Truth against the world, even there. Quiet truth against the shouted lies, for his protection or not.

One of my other favorite bits, small as it is, is the exchange with the shopkeeper. "Where did you get your ears from?" --"My parents." It works so well with the comment a few lines up about "wry acceptance of the past."

But of the whole thing, I think what stuck out to me most was this: "After I was freed, Maglor and I would sit in bed together compiling lists of what I liked. Just so I remembered, just so I wasn’t afraid when asked." It's so telling, such a small but key thing about recovery. I'd like to try writing about that scene. Would you mind?

Anyway, thank you so much for this fic. I love it greatly, because it pays so much attention to the nuances of adaptation, of finding you still have something when you thought you'd lost it all. It's very emotionally honest, and that's beautiful.

Thank you, and can I say sorry for the length of time it took me to reply. I was archived here via the Library of Tirion project, so wasn't even aware this story was up here until today. This story was the last Silm fic proper I ever wrote, back in 2005 and it feels like the right place to leave them. I had so much fun writing my retired kinslayers I can only say how grateful I am that other people enjoy them too.
