This story echos a scene in "Fiddler on the Roof" in which the red-haired daughter is forced to make a heart-wrenching choice between her father and her husband.

I see Mairon's relationship with Aule as father-son, and his relationship with Melkor as infatuation. The two relationships have nothing to do with each other. In this story, I'm trying to make Mairon experience what the red-haired girl went through when her two most important relationships collided.
