The Dragon Helm was the most meaningful gift Maedhros could have given Fingon. It always bothered me that he gave it away when it could have saved him at the Nirnaeth Arnoediad.

I need to write these domestic moments because so much of their story is so devastating and harsh. Not that I don't write about the angsty, difficult parts--I do but sometimes, as you said, you need some happy times just because.
