Chapter 1
Read Chapter 1
Most of them had forgotten or had never known what it was like in Valinor, where the weather was always mild and warm, the rains neither scarce nor excessive, the wind a breeze to blow the hair. But here, the parched lands, the dry river beds, the dying animals, constantly reminded them of yet another aspect of Arda Marred.
Suddenly, clouds, a gust of wind, the rumble of thunder beyond the horizon, the pungent smell of wet soil and finally, finally the rain. All of them celebrated, Sindar and Noldor together for once. Maybe Eru had not completely forsaken them.

Angelica! I squeed when I saw you had written something for B2MeM! This is great; I like the contrasts in the first paragraph between Valinor and Middle-earth. And your description of the rising storm is lovely! :)
Re: (1) Comment by Dawn Felagund for Happiness [Ch 1]
This is dedicated to you in particular, who have put up with my rants about heat since November! Thanks for the review. I'm thrilled beyond words.

I'll heartily second Dawn's squee! You drew a vivid picture in with a disciplined palette. The contrasts are stark, and I, too, loved the description of the storm.
Re: (2) Comment by pandemonium_213 for Happiness [Ch 1]
Thank you very much for reviewing. I'm thrilled that you liked the descriptions.

Very good, Angelica. I can greatly appreciate the first rainstorm after waiting so long; I've lived a couple of different places where there was nothing so welcome and dramatic.
Re: (3) Comment by oshun for Happiness [Ch 1]
Thunderstorms are dramatic indeed: I'm happy you liked the description. Thank you for reviewing.
(4) Comment by Rhapsody for Happiness [Ch 1]
o/ What a fabulous drabble, I love how you took your current world (down under right) and described it from the Middle-earth view. The longing for the rain, the determination to overcome this bit of summer and then the long awaited release with rain... happiness indeed!
Re: (4) Comment by Rhapsody for Happiness [Ch 1]
You're right, I now realize that the descriptions were heavily influenced by photos of the countryside here. Thank you very much for reviewing.
(5) Comment by Moreth for Happiness [Ch 1]
There is nothing on earth like rain in the desert... and you have captured it beautifully!
"... finally, finally the rain."
Just wonderful!
(And I hope you have rain!)
Re: (5) Comment by Moreth for Happiness [Ch 1]
Yes, it's been raining all day long so I feel like the Elves, ready to celebrate. Thanks for the review.
(6) Comment by whitewave for Happiness [Ch 1]
Weather may have been the last thing on the mind of the elves born and bred and Valinor it may be something they have taken for granted until they went to ME. Well done piece.
Re: (6) Comment by whitewave for Happiness [Ch 1]
Thank you very much for the review. Yes, the weather was one more problem to cope with
(7) Comment by Robinka for Happiness [Ch 1]
Great job of conveying the changes of the weather and the feeling of relief when the rain finally came :) Wonderfully done!
