Finduilas was never going to die pinned to a tree. Her father and brother would never be so foolish as to build a bridge to let the enemy into Amroth. Denethor, if she decided to accept his suit, was perhaps not quite so dashing as ill-fated Turin, but was far too wise to allow himself to be tricked into trying to outstare a dragon, would always hear his wife cry for help.

Young Finduilas had never guessed how she might be pinned, invisibly, under the Eye, beyond succour, how her husband might be tricked more subtly, staring into a stone.
