New Challenge: Title Track
Tolkien's titles range from epic to lyrical to metaphorical. This month's challenge selected 125 of them as prompts for fanworks.
Mithrellas leans out into the dark and listens to Amroth’s voice on the wind. All along, it has disturbed her that she never quite found out what happened to him. He must have drowned, she supposes, but how and when? Her husband and his people did not know. The tide left no traces.
She has tried to sing to him sometimes, but he does not hear her. Maybe he would, if she could tell him where Nimrodel was. Maybe he would hear Nimrodel’s voice. If she leaves—when she leaves, at least Mithrellas will not hear his unrelenting lament anymore.
I think I may once have read a fic about Mithrellas that also included a reference to hearing Amroth's voice on the wind, but I can't seem to recall any details.
