I thoroughly enjoyed following Thingol through all his thought pathways, as he navigates such a difficult and delicate situation.   Lovely fic!

It was such a privilege to read part of this powerful story at the event. Poor Thingol, weighing up so many different options and pieces of advice, while dealing with his own pain - I feel even more for him now than I already did! Even though I know full well that he bans Quenya, it still somehow comes as a bolt out of the blue when he arrives at that decision. Fantastic writing!

this fic is *incredible*.  the lowering sense of unease at the potential machinations that have such a dubious source but cannot be gainsaid, the way Thingol is fighting with himself, trying to find a way forwards amidst something he truly has no idea how to deal with, and GODS finrod ("this is not the look of a man falsely accused") and the way he does the best he can in such a harrowing situation!  truly incredible characterization (and now i really need to reread the bit in the Silm and try to decide what Finrod has actually done...again...since that's always such an ambiguous question...)

What a fantastic character study of Thingol. The language is incredibly well-judged, it has a rhythm to it, like the slow plodding feet of Thingol's responsibility and grief bearing down on him. I hope this becomes a classic "Thingol fic" -- it is for me, regardless!
