Light of the World

Read Light of the World

Light.

Such a crucial part of life, such an integral part of this world from the very moment of its conception.
But where there is light, there is darkness, too, forever challenging it.

First there are the Lamps, mighty and tall, when the world is unbroken.
There is no night in those days, and seeds grow and life blossoms.
But the dark hungers for destruction, and the Lamps come crashing down. Mountains break and the world is reformed.

Then there are the Two Trees, silver and golden light shining on Aman, while Ennor lies in shadow.
Telperion and Laurelin, one blooming after the other, their lights briefly mingling each day.

But darkness comes for them, too.
Yet, it cannot consume all. A fraction of light remains, a candle in the dark.
One fruit, one flower, persevering against the odds.

Ships ascend to the heavens, bearing the last remnants of the Two Trees. The first sunrise is a sight to behold, terror and joy mingling like the light once did in Aman.

There is magic in every sunrise and every moonlit night, because they tell us that the darkness may try time and again to destroy the light, but it will not succeed.

Hope needs only a spark to stay alive.
