Fanwork Notes

Inspired by The Petty Dwarf by

Within days of learning about Mîm's love of nature and emotive creativity (and his lament at the loss of all he had made), I landed on Huorinde's haikus about the Petty Dwarf. Their line "Tink, tonk: a dew drop, lamp of the stars' glow" tinkled around inside my mind inspiring all sorts of images.

And since Hidden Paths (a fortnight-long event dedicated to the celebration of smaller Tolkien canons) was on, and considering that Mîm's Klage may well be Tolkien's smallest canon, I was doubly inspired to create this moodboard, with the mood of the audio prompt Ashokan Farewell, composed and performed by Jay Ungar to compliment it.

Chapter End Notes

While researching Tarn Aeluin for another fic, I stumbled upon an the existence of an obscure part-verse, part-prose poem about Mîm. It has since been published in the The Collected Poems of J.R.R. Tolkien, but at that stage all I had to go on was the little-known German translation, "Mim's Klage", a discussion on the Tolkien Collector's Guide and Kontu, a Finnish Tolkien fan site, and the video Brewing Books made about their translation.

It had not occurred to me before, but do you think it would be okay to use your moodboard also as the image of the promo post--always assuming I can pull my act together and finish writing that promo post as promised and that the event mods are happy with that idea?
