Fanwork Notes

Inspired by this quote from the Challenge Prompt List:

I have been in Sorrow’s kitchen and licked out all the pots. Then I have stood on the peaky mountain wrapped in rainbows, with a harp and a sword in my hands.

~ Zora Neale Hurston, Dust Tracks on a Road

That Forlorn Lover

Read That Forlorn Lover

The air is fresh, the mountains solid, the stars shine bright
He climbs another, that forlorn lover, and shakes apart with dread
The borrowed harp in hand, the sharp sword on hip feels right
But to dark Thangorodrim his feet bear his golden-ribboned head

Free beneath the sky and sea
Over land reeking with Shadow
He flies, seeking what might be
The fate of beloved Nelyo

Far away, far above, far too high but just in sight
A whispered prayer, devotion marred, tears in eyes that refuse to shed
The eagle’s call, a blessing pure, answered from a height
He climbs another, that forlorn lover, stealing what is half dead

Free beneath the sky and sea
Over land reeking with Shadow
They fly, seeking the safety
Of a home free of all Sorrow
