About Me

Alla! Welcome!
I am Iþilme, eternal lover of words with an passionate appreciation for the works of Tolkien born the moment I laid eyes upon The Hobbit. To me stories are as fundamental a part of being human as breathing. I write for the love of emotive language and poignant imagery, the joy there is in the crafting, the satisfaction of striving toward mastery and the human connection forged of stories shared.

These days my heart chiefly rests with the Noldor exiles in the First Age of the world. There are so many characters to love, but I especially adore the older sons of Fëanor, Fingon and Elrond.I fell in love with their tales, such beautiful messes of bright hope, sorrow, indomitable spirit and tragedy, and so find myself gravitating to them most of all.

In my writings I try to understand the parts of the story that are hidden between the lines of the Silmarillion: the emotional valence of characters' experiences, the quality of the relationships between them, the confluence of factors that leads to the often brief paragraphs of description we are given in the Silmarillion. And of course, I am not content to neatly close the book and bid farewell to the characters I have become so invested in when their lines of text come to an end. I let my imagination take them further on their journey, to discover what may have lain before them, yet to come.

Á tulë! Come! Join me. The open pages call invitingly and my words beckon. They may be imperfect, dwarfed by literary greats more skilful than I, but they are written with warmth and love. I hope that my humble offerings in the vast and beautiful living beast that is the human tradition of storytelling will bring you blessing.

If Aredhel had to listen to one more person heap praise on her brother while she stood right beside him, completely disregarded, she might scream. The praises were well deserved, she must admit. But was it only Fingon who scouted ahead over the treacherous shifting ice of the Helcaraxë? Didn’t Aredhel also take her fair share of that hazardous duty?

In the early days at Lake Mithrim, Aredhel endures a restriction in her freedom after the comparative autonomy she had during the crossing of the Helcaraxë. Fingolfin seems set on weighing her down with safe and mundane duties. Aredhel is not enjoying this one bit. Her father may be able to keep her inside the encampment, but he cannot tame her.
