They now had the means to proceed with the development program. But was it wise to put such power into those little objects? Did they really understand the consequences of their science? The first true argument between them tasted sour afterwards, and nothing was ever the same. The project on the Three was put on hold, but Celebrimbor couldn’t abandon it. Did he already know who Annatar was when he continued the program alone? Did he believe the Three could oppose the power of the One? No, it was better to hide the Rings, but they could not be unmade.
