Vingilot sailed swiftly on its way back to Beleriand, yet to Eärendil it did not seem to be going nearly fast enough. His attempts to reach Valinor or reunite with his parents had failed, and Eärendil wanted nothing more than to see his family again. He wanted to hold Elwing in his arms again, and see how much their sons had grown. He wondered whether the boys would even recognize him. They had been so small when he left. He hoped to see the Havens soon and dispel the fear that had risen in him, that he was too late.
