Read The Endless Years
When Elwing Chose the path of the Eldar that clear, cloudless day, it was a split-second decision before the thrones and watching, impassive, eyes of all the Valar. She had not, could not imagine the sheer depths of time she had consigned herself to. The years now stretched impossibly far before her, touching, pressing at her skin, weighing down her bones.
She watched the ceaseless waves and the wheeling birds and found reasons for being. She represented her husband when necessary, playing games of political maneuvering that spanned centuries. She wove, and spun, and wrote, and waited. Her visitors were numerous, varied; everyone wanted something from her, and she gave endlessly.
And through it all, the wisdom of experience and life layered themselves on her like sediment after countless floods, crushing that scared, bold, dauntless young mother beneath it. That past self distantly screaming her own name as she drowned.
