Alone she sits, perched on the crenelations of the tallest tower.
Alone she watches, the dusk falling into long shadows over the grey and featureless landscape that used to be Ard-galen.
Alone she waits, staring with blank blank and tearless eyes as the wind whips around her in the direction of the Enemy, north, always north.
Alone she sorrows, her voice now silent, her laughter caught behind her teeth shoved down, down, down beneath her breast.
Her brother is dead, her nephews dead, everyone dead. Despair wracks her frame, but she cannot weep.
Lalwen will never be heard laughing again.
