Speak Friend and Enter: Trends in Fandom Entry Year by Dawn Walls-Thumma
Across three surveys and ten years, the Tolkien Fanfiction Survey has document when authors began writing. These data reveal trends in how film promotions, the films themselves, the books, and other historical contexts have influenced not only who writes but how long they stay.
There are few details in the texts about Marach, but he is noteworthy for his allegiances and his descendants, who would become pivotal to the history of Middle-earth and the eventual defeat of Morgoth and Sauron.

I quite like this. It's interesting to realize what would make your Maedhros, who is usually a pretty steady fellow, turn tail and flee.
Thank you very much, Huin!
Well, my Maedhros tends to seem more rather steady than he feels inside, throughout his career, but yes--it would take something like this to make him panic outright!
This was just perfect and it makes so much sense. Maedhros was oath-bound to take some action, knowing where the Silmaril was. Luthien, with all her powers might as well have her own version of a girdle (it was so funny - ‘It seems I have found Luthien’s front gate’). I love how you work her known powers over sleep into something that reminds me of Irish tales. Maedhros's response is
Great tale!
Thank you very much!
It seemed logical that Maedhros would at least try negotiating! And that he might not want it to be widely known that he failed.
I'm glad that my description of Luthien's defences works for you and that you enjoyed that bit about the "front gate"!
