Maedhros had given up all hope of escaping from Angband himself. They never leave him lightly guarded when he is hale enough to run. But that doesn’t keep him from plotting to help somebody else. 

Lirulin didn’t know what to think when the red-headed thrall unlocked their cell and freed her and her family from their chains. But it gave them the chance to implement their laboriously planned escape attempt. So, they didn't question their luck. 

Later, after Lirulin was free, she drew a map of Angband for Fingon. Even though she thought he was crazy. To her joy, she then learned of Fingon’s success. 

Afterward, Lirulin visits Maedhros at his sickbed. They bond over their shared experiences. Then Lirulin bears witness to Maedhros’ strong friendship with Fingon.
