Tolkien's titles range from epic to lyrical to metaphorical. This month's challenge selected 125 of them as prompts for fanworks.
The sons of Fëanor build a campfire after the Nirnaeth. For Jubilee instadrabbling, a perfect drabble for a prompt from Robin Wall Kimmerer's Braiding Sweetgrass: "Even a wounded world holds us, giving us moments of wonder and joy."
Amrod dragged a branch to their campsite and began breaking it up.
"What are you planning with that," Carnistir remarked. In the wake of the Nirnaeth, their thoughts ranged between plummeting dismay at their losses and bafflement that, amid those losses, all seven of them had somehow survived.
Amrod didn't answer, but within a few minutes, a lively fire crackled.
One by one, they came in around it and squatted to the ground.
The darkness beyond a campfire looks the same, whether in the shadows of the Pelóri or under the trees of Ossiriand.
Soon, laughter tried out the night.
