Hi, there! :) I read your story yesterday at work, sneaking onto the Internet with a circumventor ... of course, the moment that I clicked on REVIEW, the circumventor got blocked. >:(

I really liked how you portrayed the chaos at Alqualonde here. That is an argument that I've made in the past when discussing Alqualonde and the Noldor are made out to be cold-blooded killers: There was likely so much chaos and confusion that no one knew who drew first blood and, certainly, no one realized the full weight of what they'd done. The Noldor were clearly more in the wrong, so history disfavors them. Nonetheless, I found the way that Calimon's first kill just happened to be a very believable--and no less tragic--portrayal, something that we sadly see a lot in real life as well.

Also, as a scribe-in-training, I am immediately endeared to your narrator! :) I hope there will be more of this?

Take care,
Dawn

Perhaps the least believable event here is that Calimon's father repents so soon. But I don't see it as unbelievable, either. There would be individual differences in how people reacted to what they found themselves to have done.

There are some ideas in my head for ingredients for a Chapter 2 - Losgar. It will be written eventually.

Perhaps - if inspiration strikes sufficiently - there will also be a Chapter 3 - Nargothrond. By then, Calimon will have made friends with Celebrimbor.

If I ever write about Calimon's history in the Second Age, it will be a new story, however. His granddaughter appears in a Role Playing Game at a Tolkien discussion board. And there may be stories about some of the relatives of his son-in-law as well (they were my first OCs).

Hi there, Wise Queen.

And many thanks for sharing your story! As a keen advocate of the 'Alqualondë = Chaos' school of thought, I thoroughly appreciated this.

Calimon's youthful brashness is nicely portrayed. I'd be fascinated to see what happens at, say, Losgar...
