Fëanor shrugged, studying the contents of his wine glass. “Something must be done about that house. It will fall down eventually.” “It does not follow that it must be you that tears it down single-handedly. Are you sure you do not want help?” “It’s not as though I…
Erestor lay up against a tree, brown washed to black in the wet of the snow. The black disc of the new moon sailed across the dark sky. Erestor wished it were gone. He had no need to look into dark eyes any longer.
He was dying.

To read about the House of Fëanor thus laid low is quite heartbreaking, I like how you described it, especially the ending with the son he resembles the most grasping for the ashes.
Thank you - and... well, saying 'I'm glad you liked it' seems inappropriate, but it's true nonetheless. This was (not sure if it is apparent) a rather large step away from my usual writing style and took a while to get into. So... I'm glad it was effective? And Curufin... he's not taking it very well, obviously.
You know I always appreciate your two cents, and even though there hasn't been proper acknowledgement (it only occured to me while working on the sequel that this may have been sparked by one of your comments about how the influence of the capture and maiming of Maedhros may have been greater than the death of Feanor), thank you! :)
I already told you that I liked this, but I suppose repeating it can't hurt! This is a wonderful (well, in a terrible way. but you know what I mean), gritty, convincing take on a scene that is handled much too briefly in the Silmarillion, I think. And you wrote it so well that I can see it happen before my eyes as I read, like a movie (and we all agree that there should be a movie, right?) scene. You managed to write it sympathetically and without drifting into either the pathetic or the gruesome. Great work.
Indeed, it doesn't hurt. Quite the contrary... but once more, thank you - not only for writing the review but also for pointing out the thing that I worried about most, the reception. As per usual I wasn't sure if what I was trying to get down on the page wouldn't be either too gruesome, bland or sappy (no, I really couldn't tell), but if it wasn't, and brought the DVD along (and yes, there should be a movie/series of movies!), that is more than good to know. Thanks for commenting, and thanks for the nomination. :))
