"Move farther north," Caranthir says to her a month after the attack, gaze steady on her even as his hands continue briskly gutting fish. "There is plenty of land closer to my fortress, and my people can help protect yours if there is another attack."
Fëanor shrugged, studying the contents of his wine glass. “Something must be done about that house. It will fall down eventually.” “It does not follow that it must be you that tears it down single-handedly. Are you sure you do not want help?” “It’s not as though I…

Yep, there had to be something about Beren that made Luthien ignore all those Sindarin hotties and Celegorm, too! This is a great, not to mention hot, explanation that there was something else, not only 'fate'. Good job! Enjoyed it very much.
I must admit that I was of the opinion up till now that the one thing that Beren could not have had--hot or not--was a sense of humour. But I'm willing to reconsider!
I know exactly what you mean. If I was going to write this story, I had to create a Beren I could like. Both of them left me rather cold in the canon interpretations. The Lay of Leithian is not exactly a lively read for me--style and vocabulary questions. As you know I like a little humor with my PWP.
I just love this ficlet - Beren and Luthien are one of my favorite Tolkien couples, and though I've never thought that Luthien was sexually experienced when she first met him, you've made that notion work wonderfully here. Luthien is mature, wise, and also excited by something, and someone, new in her carefully bordered environment. I love the mutual tenderness mixed with lust, and Beren's confidence and determination to be Luthien's one and only...
An excellent description of the first meeting of Lúthien and Beren. I agree with Oshun that there must have been some strong attraction for Lúthien to choose him over all the other lovelies in her father's court and I like the way she finds Beren's human beauty and "newness" appealing. I also appreciate Oshun's idea that Lúthien is experienced and yet rather guilelessly frank in what she says to Beren.
