Chapter 1

Read Chapter 1

“I never meant to kill you.”

Dior's eyes – her eyes – looked back at him, unblinking. “And yet.”

And yet. Celegorm held his gaze, remembering.

The left corner of Dior's mouth lifted, and Celegorm felt it like a knife tip to his heart. Your mother used to look at me that way.

I know.

Anger, whip-sharp. “That was not for you to hear.”

“You know what runs in my blood.” A shrug. “Guard your mind better, Celegorm the Fair.”

Celegorm breathed in, slowly. “An interesting choice of epithet.” Aloud, this time, since there seemed to be no point in silent rumination. “Coming from you, at least.”

“You saved my boys.”

“They saved me.”

“I wonder.” Dior put his head to one side, and Celegorm thought of a kestrel, hovering, considering. “Walk with me, and tell me everything.”

Oh, I would also like to see more of this! It's so beautifully written, and says so much in so few words. I haven't read nearly enough about Dior, and I'm impressed that he wants to hear Celegorm's version of events.
