New Challenge: Title Track
Tolkien's titles range from epic to lyrical to metaphorical. This month's challenge selected 125 of them as prompts for fanworks.
‘You work your troops hard, my friend,’ says Forlong. ‘I do believe I have lost a fair amount of weight in this campaign.’
Thorongil looks up puzzled by the bitter undertone. He cannot really be complaining about the campaign? Of all his captains, Forlong has been the most steadily cheerful so far.
‘What happened with that marriage that your family was trying to arrange during your furlough?’
‘She could never fancy a man as fat as me. We broke it off. No need to be sorry for me! I am not the marrying kind. Still, it does sting, a bit.’
I think this is set early enough to pass as Silmfic.
You may have noticed that I worked in Salgant references into the title and summary to soothe my own feelings of sneakiness.
