What do you see, each time you gaze at me?
The Light you found, and lost, and found again?
Your friend, who met with death beyond the Sea,
Whose firstborn son brought me to life?—and then
Fell foul of Morgoth's hate (though Mandos warned).
Or do you see the daughter you betrayed
With careless words, whose mortal love you scorned?
The grief endured, the sacrifices made?
I share your sorrow, King of Doriath!
For I, too, cause pain I did not intend;
We are both victims of Fëanor's Oath
And greed for me will bring about your end.
But my pure light will shine on you once more
When you walk, with your Queen, in Valinor.
