New Challenge: Title Track
Tolkien's titles range from epic to lyrical to metaphorical. This month's challenge selected 125 of them as prompts for fanworks.
Prompts: looked, among, stones, last AND their lives are like the leaves/scattered in flocks of ruin, tossed and blown
Finarfin has climbed the ridge that overlooks the camp, breathing deeply now that Manwë has cleared the air of the fumes from the northern mountains. He looks out, the last rays of a setting sun turning the land golden and warm. They will go back west soon, to dwell among the Valar, leaving behind the land and lives that had shaped his people so drastically.
He revels in the peace of solitude and the bloody job finished.
A flash of that pure, bright light of the blood-stained stones flashes below, and he wishes he could ignore the familiar red hair running, shadowed as always by his raven-haired brother. He wishes this land would allow his family, his people to rest, instead of forcing the worst from them. He wishes for the comfort of slow politics.
He does not wish to know what his nephews have done.
He sighs, and descends.
