New Challenge: Title Track
Tolkien's titles range from epic to lyrical to metaphorical. This month's challenge selected 125 of them as prompts for fanworks.
Prompt: once, dream, paces, water AND so have a dance with the walking damned / before my time is done AND You will hear thunder and remember me, and think: she wanted storms.
For Day 3 of Tolkien Sea Week
Also for Tolkien Femslash February
Her dreams bring her to pace at the water’s edge, and beyond. Blood and breath and the unsteady beating of her heart call out to Numenor’s protector, begging an audience. Uinen swirls around her, bubbles catching in the dark mass of her hair, caresses gentle even as she draws her further into the deep.
Tar-Míriel has no fear, not of Uinen.
Once, she might have feared her wrath, but her cousin beat all fear out of her long ago. But the dreams are unsettling, and Uinen’s presence a comfort.
“I dream of a great wave, full of wrath and death,” Míriel confides.
“Such is the will of Eru,” Uinen whispers. “As the son dares not countermand the father, we await the oncoming storm.”
Míriel shudders, dread filling her bones. “And the daughter?”
Uinen’s embrace tightens, becomes corporeal. “The daughter holds to what is precious, until she can hold no longer.”
