An interesting choice as those lamps ( and the Feanoran ones) have a role in a story I’m working on. It’s been a few years since I was seeking any and all Tolkien canon on them but didn’t Melkor have a part in making them? They were made of ice as his power extended to cold and hot states. It was his plan to use an inferior crystal structure so that he could more easily cause their fall and resulting destruction of Almaren. Given his power over fire ( which he fostered in his balrogs) did he have something to do with the oil that was the energy burned and gave the lamps their light. When they fell the liquid burned all the land. It’s fall , or rather the giant crystal bowl that held the liquid and fell to earth becomes the location for the placement of a crystal door that is connected to the void and who is confined there.

Elrond knows that Gimli will find the information on the Lamps of Almaren.... someday. Will it be from Mithrandir on the journey? Or has Elrond had a foreseeing that Gimli will be somewhere (Valinor!) where the answers could be forthcoming from Mahal himself. 🤎
