like gold fall the leaves

The Hall of the Glass-cutters in Ost-in-Edhil had four panes of stained glass set in its front, depicting the four seasons. With every hour, as the angle of the sunlight shifted, new details were revealed and a new set of brilliant colors was reflected on the ground. It was said that Celebrimbor liked Winter the best, with its prominent holly in honor of Eregion, while Galadriel preferred Autumn’s red and gold leaves forever suspended mid-fall.

When Ost-in-Edhil fell to Sauron, the Orcs raucously smashed all the windows. Snowflakes, flower petals, golden leaves: all fell and scattered in shining fragments together.
