Written for the Epic 80s challenge, inspired by the prompt: 'The Message' by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.

Also for Day Two of Tolkien Gen Week 2026 (friendship and animals).

Since canon tells us that Borondir escaped attack and pursuit partly because of the speed of his horse, I decided to name the horse Flash, in honour of the 80s prompt.

You bring it all across so well, just what a harrowing trip that was!

And it is very true that the worst moment must have been losing the other one of the pair on the way.

Really effective use of that refrain to convey his determination in spite of all odds.

I've been thinking about Borondir a lot lately, and I realised that there's a big difference between the 'glory' of being the one to get through to Eorl and the reality of being the only one out of the six who survived. I really wanted to give him a voice, and I'm so glad you feel my poem worked.

This is great! Though this is the first time I've come across the name Borondir, and I do not know the full context, it was an emotional and impactful read!

I'll be looking more into the history of Rohan now.
