Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, Mairon knew, and names had power. He stared at the low walls of the Noldor’s sea-side city, breathing the salt air of dread Ulmo’s domain. Mairon hung, incorporeal, on the breeze, considering the best way to get what he wanted.
In time, he Sang, spinning himself a new fana, choosing elements of the most beautiful of his former captives into one, cohesive form. No doubt, this body would turn heads, give him the attention that he so craved, that he desperately needed to pull this off. The Noldor prized beauty above all else, he knew, beauty and light and innocence. He had taken it from them often enough.
He curled bare toes into the soft earth, reveling in sensation. A name. A Lord of Gifts, he would be, time and time and time again, always giving, never taking, until all was set in motion. He smiled, admiring the sheen of his new hair and the smoothness of his skin.
Gaining admittance to the city was too easy, these Eldar had lived in peace for far too long. Getting into court was harder, but not impossible.
Charming Lúthien’s heir, though, was nigh impossible.
