Found at Last

Sudden laughter startled Maglor out of his reverie. He had been staring up at the clouds thinking of nothing at all, humming tuneless songs, and enjoying the late summer warmth of the sand beneath his back, and now for a moment he thought himself dreaming, hearing two familiar and beloved voices. When he lifted his head he saw two familiar and beloved faces, too. But then he blinked and knew himself to be awake, and so it could not be in truth Elrond and Elros riding down the beach, their grey cloaks pinned with silver stars. Elros was long gone, passed away across the Sea and then beyond the world. So who…?

“I told you we would be successful this time!” said one twin, smiling bright as the sun on the waves. “Has it not been proven of late that lost things are always found in the end?”

“Even lost things that do not wish to be found,” laughed the other. “And just in time, too! Well met, Maglor son of Fëanor! We do not bring greetings from Elrond our father, for he does not know our errand, but he will be very glad to see you all the same!”
