About Me

I'm a nerd who has been reading fanfiction since 1996, and Silmarillion fanfiction since 2002. Haven't seriously written anything, though.

I live in Connecticut with my family (and two cats, two dogs, and several fish), have a BA in English (focus on creative writing), and am currently going for a Masters degree in Library and Information Science. In my spare time, I spam my friends with zillions of photos, read, do some freewriting, look up weird facts, obsessively photograph and try to identify animals, plants, and fungi, compulsively sort things, and ramble a lot.

Despite my mom pestering me during my preteen years to try reading The Hobbit, I was only introduced to Tolkien and his work when the Fellowship of the Ring came out in 2001, when I was 18 and in my first year of university. I quickly devoured the LotR books, and though I've never really liked Tolkien's writing style, I fell in love with many of his characters and his world. Desire for more of it lead me to pick up The Silmarillion, which I liked even better. It remains my favorite book to this day. I have a certain fondness for Finrod Felagund, Finarfin, Maglor, Maedhros, Nerdanel, Elrond, and sometimes Glorfindel, though most of the Elves are fascinating to me (especially the Noldor).

Other stories and authors I enjoy: Dianna Wynne Jones, W.B. Yeats, Robert Herrick, T.S. Eliot, various books about whales, dolphins, and other animals, medieval and ancient literature, mythology, and good books about the history of the English language.
