This presentation for Mereth Aderthad 2025 discusses the parallels between the concept of abnegation in the scientific work surrounding the atomic bomb and in The Silmarillion. The relinquishment of self-interest in favor of the interests of others, abnegation was identified by Tolkien as a powerful act of spirit and reason. The legendarium has many examples of the complexities of abnegation, which parallel similar discussions held by physicists during and after World War II.

I just came across this story and I am in love. You are featuring my favorite characters here, and making them so believable. The aspect of sculpture and methodology of grouping for a sculpture are beautifully rendered and I could almost see her exam piece of the three birds in front of me. I have marked the story as one of my favorites and look forward to any new chapters as they will appear. I'm not in any rush (which is a good thing since you have been working on this for two years so far), but it will make me very happy when you have anything new to add.
