Fanwork Notes

This story is told in four triple drabbles (300 words) and was written for the November 1 instadrabbling session using the following prompts:

  • How good we were at turning moments into paper,
into things we could crumple up & throw away.
  • Your hair like a starless night
Your eyes like deep violet shadows
  • you say that I am weak and kiss the tears away
you offer what I need for more than I can pay
  • Moonlight pours down without mercy, no matter how many have perished beneath the trees.

It also uses the prompt "being alone" from the challenge The Only Thing to Fear.

Do we have a definite geography of Valinor somewhere?  I've been going by what I can find on the Gurgle and Tolkien Gateway, and that seems to give me about 600 miles between Tirion and Formenos by the mountain road, or between 4 and 7 Tree-days' travel. What am I missing?

I do like your Terentaule as Brimby's mom:) (argh - can't find the right e in the provided list!)  I have a different dynamic in mind for that pair, but I may borrow her personality!

No, there is not a definitive geography of Aman. So I'd say that what you're missing is that this is a creative piece, written in an instadrabbling session, to serve a creative purpose as a work of Gothic fiction. It is not a treatise on canon. If that's what you want, please avoid my creative work in the future and stick to my scholarship.

I'm glad that you otherwise enjoyed the work.

I don't have much to say because you've used words better than I could, but this was extremely beautiful, and bittersweet like life itself 💗 (I also love the structure!)
