I love the juxtaposition of Gil-Galad's first appearance, full of hope and myth, with his sudden arrival at the campsite, where he's suddenly much smaller and much more of a person.  I agree with the narrator--he must be lonely.  The whole thing is such a sweet little moment, very very Tolkien-esque.

(Could I get a Scavenger Hunt prompt?)

Thank you! I fear our poor Gil is all myth and no man, a fact of which I like my Gil to be keenly aware. And I like him getting to be awkward, and bitter, and all the things he's not supposed to be!

Prompt: "After Years" by Ted Kooser (https://www.best-poems.net/ted_kooser/after_years.html -- there is a Library of Congress page with this poem but it was not working when I tried to access it):

Today, from a distance, I saw you
walking away, and without a sound
the glittering face of a glacier
slid into the sea. An ancient oak
fell in the Cumberlands, holding only
a handful of leaves, and an old woman
scattering corn to her chickens looked up
for an instant. At the other side
of the galaxy, a star thirty-five times
the size of our own sun exploded
and vanished, leaving a small green spot
on the astronomer's retina
as he stood on the great open dome
of my heart with no one to tell.
