Of the Silmarils and the unrest of the Noldor
The outcast family collected in the fortress of Formenos
infinity of precious stones; weapons they forged;
they hid the Silmarils in an iron hall they chose
for its secureness; Finwë their father, Tirion's Lord,
also came to live there out of his love for them;
and Fingolfin remained to rule in his kingdom.
So, seemingly, Melkor's lies affected their stem,
yet Fëanor had actually achieved discord on his own.
The bitterness that Melkor had sown in the family
would linger for a long while, even amid the descendants.
For sometimes biased senses may be full of irrationality,
unaware of their ultimate blood-bound interdependence.
When Melkor found out his tricks had come to light,
he fled swiftly and started to hide in morbid places,
between the shadows of the hills, in mysterious twilight,
Tulkas sought for him in vain, yet not even vague traces.
The folks of Valinor had the faint impression
that the rays of the Two Trees might have slightly dimmed.
The shadows grew taller and, despite the discression
of that change, an inner premonition, alerted, somewhat thinned.
There was not even a glimpse of Melkor in Valinor,
no news emerged regarding his location; he had vanished;
suddenly!, he appeared at Fëanor's fortress' doors,
trying to lure him further, now that he was banished.
He offered him alliance with a deeply cunning speech,
trying to induce him to free himself from the Valar.
"See that I was right; you were thrown out of reach,
unrighteously in exile, yet your heart still holds power.
It is free and brave, such as all it said in Tirion,
so I shall help you escape these lands of imprisonment.
Am I not a Valar? I deserve the same recognition;
always a Noldorin friend; the folk most talented and potent."
Fëanor, however, was all but not a fool;
besides, he still carried a lingering vitriol
due to the himiliation before Mandos; so, cool,
he succumbed not to the plots of the ghoul.
He wondered, instead, trying to assess the pretext,
whether the could trust him with a potential escape;
and, Melkor, sensing his hesitation, he used a context
he knew could wound him the most; the Silmarils he craved.
"Your fortress is strong and you guard it keenly;
alas, do not believe that any treasury can keep the Silmarils secure,
as long as in the Valarin kingdom, they are obscenely
engangered; so don't think twice and follow me with all your valour."
The deceitfulness was slightly overdone beyond its goal in that phase;
the words struck a cord and ignited a wilder flame than Melkor imagined;
with ardorous gaze Fëanor pierced the beauty of the enemy ablaze,
gaining insight on his yearning for the Silmarils; impassioned,
his contempt prevailed beyond his fear that arose,
and Fëanor cursed Melkor and ordered him coldly:
"Get out of my gate, you prisoner of Mandos!"
And he slammed shut the gates at his face, boldly.
He slammed them shut at the face of the mightiest one in Eä,
so Melkor ingloriously and embarassedly slipped away,
yet the One who rose in Might knew it was the time to prepare,
not yet time for vengeance, despite the rage that decayed.
Finwë trembled out of apprehension,
so he sent the word to Manwë at Valmar;
the messengers arrived there with tension,
where the Valar had just gathered together;
for a council - the prolonged shadows bothered them,
Oromë and Tulkas immediately darted after the villain;
but just as they were starting the chase, just then,
Elven agents came to notify of his ferocious apparition.
He had run away through Calacirya as a stormy cloud,
the Elves had seen him from the top of the Túna hillock,
the Teleri of Alqualondë caught a glimpse of him around
their port, directed to Araman; what an utter shock!
That is how Melkor left Valinor forever.
The Two Trees shone serenely for a longer while,
the Valar sought news of their enemy; never
did they find such; in vain their quest in the wild.
Such as a black cloud accumulates its thickness,
in the faraway forming storm of terror and damage,
doubt obscured the previously endless happiness
of all those in Aman due to what was mismanaged.
