Of the darkening of Valinor
Ungoliant lived in a bottomless chasm,
she acquired the form of a monstrous spider;
she'd weave black nets, reeking of miasm,
in the mountain gorge that would perfectly hide her.
There, she sucked in every form of light
that she managed to maliciously track down;
she spewed forth the substance with spite,
corrupting it to suffocating shadows all around.
She did all that until the light stopped reaching her lair.
Insatiable hunger started corroding her - damnation;
it tormented her with cravings she could not bear,
until it drove her to seek beyond, out of desperation.
Melkor, stealthily, came to Avathar to seek her,
with the visage he wore as a tyrant in Utumno,
a grim master, enormous and scary, who'd hurt
every form of life and hope, just in order to undo.
There, in the blackest adumbration and evil,
that were invisible even to Manwë from his heights,
Melkor and Ungoliant plotted revenge so lethal,
just to satiate vindictiveness that only knew lies.
Yet when Ungoliant knew of Melkor's strategy,
she started doubting, setting inner defensive barriers,
she started hesitating between greed and depravity,
and fear of the Aman's mighty Rulers and warriors.
Because of that she dared not leave her den,
and Melkor started convincing her sweetly, with demand:
"Do as I say, and if you're still hungry, then,
I'll give you whatever you want, with my two hands."
He made a promise, without wavering, as always;
and in his soul, he'd secrety laugh, as he'd usually do;
that's how the big thief lures the small one and employs
them to act as they're told; falsely and without a clue.
